Candidates are offered a comprehensive ‘Environment Management Process’ audit, wherein an objective review of environmental activities, and the evaluation and possible improvement and development of weaker points, are set out for those companies yielding negative results. Participation in the scheme entails the responsibilities of training and communication; in having their level of environmental awareness so raised, in the combined efforts of management and workforce to reduce negative environmental impact, employees are encouraged to take greater pride and responsibility in their institutions.
Furthermore, prize-winning institutions will find their public image and thus their market share will increase after their success as ‘Environment Friendly Industrial Establishment’ has been publicly announced. The KCI Sahabettin Bilgisu Environmental Award carries immense prestige, and companies receiving this distinction may display the award logo on their correspondence, products and in their publicity.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARDS COMMITTEE

The Awards Committee is composed of 14 individuals drawn from the following bodies: 3 from the KCI, and 1 each from the Environment Ministry, TOBB, TSE, Gebze High-Tech Institute, TUBİTAK-MAM, Kocaeli University, Marmara University, KalDer, Gebze Organised Industrial Zone Management, TEMA, and the Nature Preservation Society. Naturally the KCI Executive Committee President is both a member and the President of the Awards Committee too.

AWARDS

Any industrial facility active in the Marmara region, committed to sustainable improvement processes, aiming to apply, or working to develop an existing environmental management system, may participate in the awards scheme. The Environment and Encouragement Awards may be presented to enterprises of any scale. The Environmental Award is presented to the facility which of all participants most satisfies the requirements of the general evaluation criteria. As a further incentive, recipients of the distinction are granted a reduction when delivering waste materials to the İZAYDAŞ (Hazardous and Clinical Waste Incineration) Facility.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

The KCI annually determines the date of a press conference to announce the Environmental Awards. Industrial institutions of whatever scale wishing to apply must submit the original and 5 copies of the Application Form plus attachments, to the Environmental Consultant at the KCI. The only restriction applies to previous winners of the Environmental Award, who are thereby disqualified from re-entry to the competition for a period of three years from the date of receiving the award. Winners of the Encouragement Award, however, may apply for the Environmental Award the following year.
