KCI Dumlupınar Secondary School

Following the demolition of the former Gölcük Dumlupınar Middle School, construction of the new Gölcük Kocaeli Chamber of Industry Dumlupınar Middle School commenced on November 10, 2011, through a collective effort led by the members of the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry (KCI). The project was successfully completed and officially inaugurated on May 23, 2013, with the esteemed participation of the then-Minister of Science, Industry, and Technology, Mr. Nihat Ergün.

Initiated under the leadership of the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry and in line with the requests of the Governorship of Kocaeli, the project’s official protocol was signed on August 11, 2011, at the Historical Hunting Lodge, with the participation of the Governor of Kocaeli.

The tender process was managed by the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry and was exclusively open to companies operating within the provincial borders of Kocaeli. Among the five participating construction firms, Kocaeli Yapı İnş. San. ve Tic. Ltd. Şti. won the tender with the lowest bid of 2.8 million Turkish Lira.

The architectural plan of the school consisted of four floors: a basement level, a ground floor, and two upper floors containing classrooms. The building includes:

  • 32 classrooms

  • 2 nursery rooms

  • 1 elevator

  • 1 science laboratory

  • 1 sports room

  • Administrative and teachers’ offices

  • 27 restrooms

In addition to the specifications in the tender, the Chamber made significant enhancements, including:

  • Replacement of the conventional roof with a steel structure, adding 1,000 m² of roof area

  • Installation of a climate control system and a natural gas heating system with a combi boiler on the top floor

  • Flooring entirely covered with seranit tiles

  • Expansion of the schoolyard

  • Construction of new travertine-covered stairways to ensure children’s safety and visibility, following the expansion

  • Additional insulation for the building

  • Replacement of brick walls with aerated concrete

  • Upgrade of window frames from aluminum to PVC

As a result of these additional investments, the project that was initially contracted at 2.8 million TL was completed with a total cost of 4 million TL, and presented as a gift to the district of Gölcük.
