Supply Chain Sustainable Development Program-Pirelli Case Study

Kocaeli Chamber of Industry and East Marmara ABIGEM- a subsidiary on training and consultancy for our Chamber, have started working on the Supply Chain Sustainable Development Program in 2010 with Pirelli Turkey. Pirelli Turkey’s suppliers are solely SMEs.
As the project team, we have so far assisted 30 Supplier Companies Visions via the “Pirelli Supply Chain Sustainable Development Program”. Pirelli regularly monitored the progress of SMEs involved and has directly reported to project management.
In the scope of project we have provided a training program and consultancy services to approximately 1.200 employees in 30 suppliers on Occupational Work and Safety, Environment, and Labor Law issues. The suppliers not only acquired a higher standard on sustainable development but also restructured their processes. Thus the suppliers were able to compete at the international level and many of them have entered into international business arrangements.
Employees started to work on safer areas. Suppliers became more capable on environmental issues. Suppliers turned into companies that work legally, aware of shareholders expectations and practice social responsibility projects.
Through the Supply Chain Sustainable Development Program, not only the participating SMEs have benefitted but also Pirelli as the Original Equipment Manufacturer having a more reliable supplier base.
We are also building other Suppliers Development Programs with other OEMs stationed in Kocaeli.

1- Environmental Impact Assessment Reports were produced for each supplier.
2- Training was given to increase the awareness of suppliers on environment issues.
